Proposed Improvements to the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre and Museum at St Richards House

An exciting opportunity has  arisen to upgrade and expand  the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre and Museum at Saint Richard’s House . This should prove very beneficial for the people of the town and for visitors from elsewhere.

The Town Council have applied to Wychavon District Council under the Community Legacy Grant Scheme for consideration towards funding the project. The scheme is available for innovative, ambitious & viable capital projects which meet local needs and that will create a significant Community legacy. An important consideration is that local community engagement and support is determined.

Individual grant awards will normally be from £10,000 to £100,000 and the upper threshold value has been requested for this project. At present we are looking two possible components of the project.

  1. Introduction of some augmented reality using technology to help bring many of the rich local historical themes to life. Also the use of interactive historical story boards to help showcase key themes and timelines unique to Droitwich Spa. This will enable proactive engagement with schools to support National curriculum learning as well as providing a high quality local information hub for everyone to access and be proud of for our Town.
  2. Internal reconfiguration of the Museum space with enhanced display areas, a circular trail direction for visitors and improvements to mobility access, décor and lighting. Options to increase exhibition space and amalgamate different sections are also being considered to enable increasing display items from reserves or loaned collections. Scope exists to utilise redundant space towards better showcasing for parts of the existing legacy –for example the Wychbold BBC Radio collection. A dedicated display of artefacts to commemorate the 2020 Mayflower 400 and Edward Winslow anniversary is proposed as a befitting completion and opening timeline for the project.

The Town Council is eager to hear the views of residents and encourage feedback and  further suggestions for the project. It does not matter if you are concerned whether an idea is impractical, out of scope or cost prohibitive, please let us hear it and we can consider how it could be included and achieved.

Please send your ideas and feedback to
